About Maggie-May

Stories need tellers like this lady

Maggie-May, also known as Nadine AuCoin, has another kind of story telling talent and I hope her first children book is doing really well. She is also a song writer, but for me, her true strength – according to yours truly -  is in her short stories & novella…

I have not come around to buy her book yet (not that I do not want to), so I am only talking with a limited vision of her work. I can say this, her writing touched me and it is the reason why she is featured on “Clairepeek Word World”.

Our mutual friend Sunnie Day wrote a lengthier blog about Maggie-May – Introducing Nadine AuCoin, aka Maggie-May – and I will borrow a quote only, as Maggie-May’s favourite quote:

Write from your heart
Write from your soul…
Make the best of your talent
And, don’t ever let it go
Not for anything…

About the book: “Pilot, Swaydy & Friends

“This book is based in Cheticamp, Nova Scotia. There is a talking lighthouse, a seagull, and pilot whales. The story is sweet, endearing, and easy to follow for those not familiar with Nova Scotia. The artwork is amazing! I’m going to buy more books for all of my grandchildren!” – Review from Amazon.com

About Sunnie Day

It takes also one of a kind lady

It obviously means Sunnie Day and believe me, there are no exaggeration in my words. Sunnie has a gift and it is not only the one of writing. Indeed, her truest gift is the one of her heart where writing becomes her “Artistry Instrument” in order to bring everything out on paper/screen for our greatest pleasure. She cares… she loves… she gives… that is what you’ll find in Sunnie’s beautiful work.

You should get better acquainted with her: click here

This being said, you should know that I always like to tease my readers, therefore you should pay attention to HOW I say things… Sunnie Day is an amazing story teller, and I suspect that it is because she is such a lady that her stories are SO good. They are not always fictional and some of her work at Hubpages will unveil more truth about Sunnie than you might be able to handle… Trust me on that, goodness can be overwhelming, but it makes me so happy to count her as my friend and a great colleague, so I know you’ll enjoy her company. Have you seen her smile?

I asked her what motivated her to write and she answered – I quote -

“Honestly it is so relaxing… it gets me out of my head… haha… I am such a deep thinker and sometimes writing just releases me… Does that make sense? I also love to make people happy and feel better… life is so hard and I hope to make people feel good about themselves and life…”

It does make sense and dear friend: mission accomplished.

When she is not busy being amazing through her own creations, she creates even more for others on her newly built WordPress blog “Sunnie Day’s Pen to Page“.

If all that was not enough – because you’ll see, she’s written a lot of wonderful tales and poems – she’s published three eBooks. Do you think that is all she is doing… noooo… she is also raising chickens! She is therefore working on a fourth eBook entitled “Sunnie and her Peeps”…

It takes an imaginative and tender soul too

There is a fine line between being totally ignored one day and bouncing back up in cheers the next. Colin is another hubber from Hubpages… known as Epigramman over there, or just Epi; I, however, have adopted him as “The Epi-man“.

I believe it was during my first week on Hubpages that I received the visit of Colin… or at least, one of my poems did. He shared all that he felt about what he had just read, and he was so cheerful that I remember clearly – though my screen was kind of blurry – shedding a few tears mixed with a big smile.

His work is like his comments: rich. He has a vivid and productive imagination that always leaves me in awe. Today, I read one of his latest creation entitled “Help me, I am in the wrong painting!” and I wondered how he actually managed that. He refers to painters like Picasso and Magritte, put their work in his own world made of verse. He built up an entire story in a poem, and as crazy as this sounds, it works wonders.

Mona Lisa
letting out a scream
in the frozen landscape
of Munch’s mad dream

Colin has many qualities and apart from being my friend,he is a poet - chosen by the hubbers of Hubpages as one of the Best Poets in August 2011 – he likes to spook his readers. I actually believe that it diverts him exceedingly to read the “spooked” comments and he probably discuss his strategy to get such a result with the words he has picked before hand.  His poems are often set up like movie scenes of old. He is such a “movie monster”…

“An investigator
wearing an eye patch
and his old blind dog
solved
this daunting mystery

excerpt from “Skeletons in exile

But one of his true secrets are his epigrams, which gave him his nickname. They are all brilliant, wise and funny – sometimes wisdom mixed with humor gives explosive epigrams.

If I had to chose my favorite epigram, I would be in deep troubles… it seems that I put myself in such a posture after all since you are expecting an excerpt now, aren’t you… let’s see, what about:

“Extreme politeness
was a mess.
Boring topic
you must confess.
Much more exciting
to be discontent
and listen to people
in a vent!

Epigram “Linguistic unrest”, excerpt from “Linguistic unrest, Houdini’s round trip, the human reflex, preparing for destiny, and the naked truth: 5 epigrams

Colin Stewart, aka Epigramman is a must read. Every morning, with a nice cup of coffee or tea, it is the best way to start your day.

The Insignificant Penny” is Sunnie Day‘s third eBook and already a fourth is to follow.

About the book

A short fictional tale of a penny’s circulation journey. This penny has seen much and became more valueable than gold to many he touched along the way.” – Amazon’s Book description.

My Review

- posted also on Amazon.com -

I have only just read “The Insignificant Penny” and I remember with a smile what Sunnie Day said on Novelty Fiction. “One of my favorite things to do as an author is to construct a story in which an object is given a life. It takes a life of its own.” Knowing this, I understand better why the simple tale of this American penny has astounded me so. Sunnie does make it happen: life into a non-animated object; this is ridiculously good and such a fun read. I time-traveled on different continents, met people, fell in and out of love in seconds; together with the penny I went about the world and witnessed man’s folly just like his tenderness.  Right up until the end I followed “The Insignificant Penny” and smiled with a tear coming up my eye. This short story is a must read because it is fresh, tender, funny and told brilliantly.

All I can say now is this: I do hope that, one day, we will see a hard copy book regrouping these stories around inanimated objects. In the meantime, I suggest that you go an read some of them on Hubpages:

It takes a special person

There are people who cross your path and you wonder how you went all that way without them “by your side”. As you well understood my meaning, Vincent is one of these people who, I am fortunate to say, entered my life a few months ago (June 2011). I said once about Vincent that he was like a slap in the face that one was longing for and said “thank you” when it arrived.

Vincent is first and foremost a poet who lets his soul talk through his quill. He has the talent to make one shiver with discomfort, smile in metaphors, shed tears as he shows the darkest side of mankind and at the same time the beauty of his heart. He is one of these authors who cannot be left alone, or saved for later… he is to be read with passion and enthusiasm.

Sunnie Day’s Pen to Page says about Vincent Moore:

“It is my honor to introduce you to a charming and gifted writer whom I refer to as Saddlerider, and more recently my dear friend Ken.”

Now, of course Vincent is a very busy bee since he writes on Hubpages – where he celebrated his 100th hub this August 2011. He is more and more active on his blog, Poetry in Motion, you have got to love that title… There are loads to read and even a little to listen to, so just go have a look-it ’cause this is a place worth the detour.
